Getting Started
No account needed. CoHalve works entirely on your device — just open the app and start logging expenses. No sign-up, no email, no password.
Go to Settings (bottom tab). Under "Your Profile," enter your name. Under "Co-Parent," enter your co-parent's name. Under "Default Split," drag the slider to your agreed split. These defaults apply to every new expense you create.
In Settings → Children, tap "Add child" and type their name. You can add as many children as needed. When logging an expense, you'll be able to tag it to a specific child.

Expenses

Tap the + button on the Expenses tab. Fill in the amount, category, date, who paid, and (optionally) a title, child, notes, and receipt photo. Tap Save.
On the Expenses tab, swipe right on the expense and tap Request. Or open the expense detail and tap Request Reimbursement. The expense status will change to "Pending" and CoHalve will remind you in 3 days if it hasn't been settled.
Open the expense and tap Mark as Paid. The balance will update automatically. You can also decline a reimbursement request and enter a reason.
Yes — swipe left on an expense and tap Delete, or open it and use the delete option. Exception: locked entries cannot be deleted. Locking is designed to prevent edits after both parties have acknowledged an expense.
Locking an expense makes it permanent — it can no longer be edited or deleted. This creates a tamper-proof record, useful for documentation and court reporting. In the full co-parent sync version, locking happens automatically when your co-parent views the entry.
When adding an expense, tap the camera icon. CoHalve uses Apple's Vision framework to read the receipt amount directly on your device — nothing is sent to a server. The amount pre-fills the form. You can adjust it if needed.

Reports & Exports

Go to the Reports tab and select a date range. Tap Export PDF. The report is generated entirely on your device and opens iOS Share Sheet — email it, AirDrop it, save to Files, or print it. Reports include all expenses, dates, splits, amounts, and reimbursement status.
CoHalve generates clean, itemized reports with dates, categories, amounts, splits, and status. Many attorneys use them to support expense claims. Always consult your attorney about what documentation your specific court requires.

Premium & Subscriptions

The free tier lets you log up to 10 expenses, view the running balance, request reimbursements, and lock entries. PDF export, receipt scanning, and the co-parent invite are Premium features.
Yes. CoHalve Premium is Family Shareable via Apple's Family Sharing feature. One subscription covers everyone in your Family Sharing group — your co-parent included.
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. On your iPhone: Settings → [Your name] → Subscriptions → CoHalve Premium → Cancel. You keep Premium access until the end of your current billing period.
Open CoHalve, go to Settings → Upgrade to Premium, and tap Restore Purchase at the bottom of the paywall. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID that made the original purchase.

Data & Privacy

All your data lives on your device in the app's private storage container. CoHalve has no servers, no cloud sync, and no account system. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Delete the CoHalve app from your iPhone. All data stored in the app container is permanently removed. There's no server-side data to request deletion of.

Troubleshooting

Since data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app deletes your expense history. If you had iCloud Backup enabled, your data may be restored if you restore your iPhone from backup. Unfortunately we cannot recover data from a deleted install without a backup.
Try these steps: (1) Make sure the receipt is flat and well-lit with no shadows. (2) Hold the camera steady and ensure the total is clearly visible. (3) If the amount is still wrong, you can manually edit it after scanning. If the issue persists, email us at support@cohalve.app with a description.
Check that notifications are enabled: iPhone Settings → CoHalve → Notifications → Allow Notifications. CoHalve sends a weekly balance digest on Sundays and a nudge 3 days after a reimbursement request goes unanswered.
