FAQ

How do I play Mahjong Solitaire?

Tap two identical free tiles to remove them. A tile is "free" when nothing covers it from above and at least one of its left or right sides is open. Clear the entire board to win. Use hints if you get stuck — you have three free per game.

The board is stuck. What now?

If no moves are possible, tap Shuffle to redistribute the remaining tiles. Or tap Undo to walk back your last few moves and try a different path.

Why are tiles in different colors?

Each Mahjong suit gets its own warm earth tone so you can scan the board faster: bamboo is moss green, dots are slate, characters are ember red, winds are plum, dragons are red/green/bone, flowers are aged gold, seasons are copper.

Are the boards always solvable?

Yes. Every board is generated by playing a game in reverse, guaranteeing at least one valid solution exists. If you get stuck, it's a planning issue, not a bad shuffle.

What's the Daily Challenge?

Every day at midnight (your local time), a fresh seed produces the same puzzle for every player worldwide. Solve it to extend your streak. Miss a day and your streak resets.

I bought a theme pack but it's not unlocking. Help?

Open Settings → Upgrades → Restore Purchases. This re-syncs your purchases with Apple. If that doesn't work, email me with your Apple ID region (e.g. "US") and the date of purchase and I'll look into it directly.

I bought "Remove Ads" but I don't see ads anyway. Did I waste money?

The current version doesn't yet show ads — but Remove Ads also unlocks unlimited hints (instead of the 3-per-game free cap), and it's a one-time purchase that covers all future ads when they're added in v1.2.

What's the difference between "Mahjong" and this game?

Traditional Mahjong is a four-player tile game with bidding, similar to gin rummy. Mahjong Solitaire (this app) is a single-player puzzle that uses the same tiles but a completely different ruleset — match identical pairs to clear the board. There is no gambling and no multiplayer.

Why no cloud save?

To keep the app simple and private. Your stats stay on your device. Game Center handles your leaderboard scores. If iCloud sync becomes a frequent request, I'll add it in a future version.

Will there be more layouts / themes / features?

Yes. The roadmap currently includes interstitial ads (with Remove Ads exit), a "Mahjong Pro" subscription, more layouts, and seasonal themes. Email me with feature requests — I read every one.
