Privacy policy

Effective May 29, 2026 · Last updated May 29, 2026

Sober Habit is built around a simple idea: your data is yours, and it stays on your device. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice.

Information we collect

None. Sober Habit does not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share any personal data, drinking data, or usage data with us or any third party.

There are no accounts. No sign-up. No analytics SDKs. No advertising SDKs. No crash-reporting third parties. No tracking.

Information stored on your device

Everything you log — drinks, cravings, mood, social context, notes, weekly plans, and challenges — is stored in a local database on your iPhone, inside the app's sandboxed container. It is encrypted at rest by iOS. It is included in your encrypted iCloud device backup (if you have one enabled). We have no ability to read it.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you grant permission, Sober Habit reads your sleep analysis data from Apple Health to show how your drinking may relate to your sleep. This data is read on-device and is never transmitted off your device. Sober Habit does not write any data to Apple Health. You can review or revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Sober Habit.

Apple Intelligence (on-device AI)

If your device supports Apple Intelligence, the Pro coaching features use Apple's on-device language model to read your logs and write your weekly reflection, trigger insights, and suggestions. These calls run entirely on your iPhone. Your data is not sent to Apple's servers, OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other AI provider. If your device does not support Apple Intelligence, the same insights are produced using simple on-device rule-based summaries — still 100% local.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Sober Habit schedules local notifications (daily check-in reminder, milestone acknowledgements, and an optional risk-time heads-up). These are delivered by iOS on your device; we do not operate a notification server and there is no remote push.

Subscriptions and purchases

Sober Habit Pro is offered as a monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase, all processed by Apple via the App Store and StoreKit. Apple handles payment, billing, and renewals according to Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive only the anonymized purchase event needed to unlock Pro features on your device — no payment information, no email address, no name.

Age

Sober Habit is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is rated 17+. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone of any age (see above — we collect nothing).

Your rights

Because we do not collect or store your data on any server, there is no data export, deletion, or correction process to request from us — you already have complete control. To remove all your data, delete the app; this removes the local database and all logged entries from your device.

Not medical advice

Sober Habit is a personal tracking and reflection tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical, diagnostic, or treatment advice, and is not a treatment for alcohol use disorder. All insights are framed as personal reflections of your own logged data. If you are concerned about your relationship with alcohol, please speak with a healthcare professional. In the U.S., you can call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 (24/7). If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and surface a notice inside the app. If a future version of the app introduces any data collection (which is not currently planned), we will require your explicit opt-in.
